The Romantasy Outline Method
Elena Marsh
The Save the Cat beat sheet is the most widely used structural framework in contemporary fiction. But it was designed for screenplays and adapted for single-protagonist novels. It simply does not account for the dual-arc structure that defines fantasy romance. The Romantasy Outline Method fixes this. This comprehensive romantasy writing guide takes the classic 15-beat structure, maps it perfectly to a 300-page manuscript, and introduces a parallel 8-beat romance arc—allowing you to plan both narrative arcs simultaneously. Romantasy is not just fantasy with a subplot. It is a complex story running two simultaneous arcs: the plot arc (external stakes) and the romance arc (internal stakes). Both must be structurally complete, and both must intersect at specific narrative milestones. This text serves as a master romantasy plotting framework, designed to help you align both tracks from the very beginning. Inside this 57-Page Digital Companion: Part 1 — The Foundation: Master the mechanical page percentages, dual-arc symmetry, and the four crucial Intersection Points (25%, 50%, 75%, and 95%) that hold the story together.
